Catch Ya On The Flip Side, Work
Today was my last day of work until mid September. I handed back my work truck and said my “see ya laters.” It’s surreal. I’ve been working for my company for over three years leading up a large pipeline project. I didn’t anticipate this job to begin with (another story but it came out of left field.) It’s been a lot of hard work, long hours and dedication. I built some lifetime friendships and created some wonderful work relationships but the project is wrapping up and it’s the perfect time for a leave of absence. Thankfully I work with a bunch of adventurous guys. They didn’t even really blink when I mentioned hiking the PCT. They genuinely seemed interested and supportive! I was prepared to quit to follow my dream but I’m so happy it didn’t come down to that. I even received a little goodbye recognition. 🫶
I’m a bit of a workaholic. I have trouble disconnecting from work. I love what I do and I love the people I work with. I’m passionate about it. It’s an interesting and rather niche industry so every day feels like a new adventure. Hiking the PCT is going to be a true challenge on disconnecting and it’s a challenge I look forward to. After countless overtime hours, day shifts, night shifts, double shifts, even a 19 hour shift! I’m officially done work.
Handing back my truck was a bit of an emotional experience. I truly love driving. And I realized that I’m going to be without a vehicle for the next six months. No driving. Just walking. One foot in front of the other. Walking back home to Canada. Wild.
