Day 15 - Zero in Idyllwild - PCT 2024
Miles Hiked: 0
Total Ascent: 0
Total Descent: 0
I love Idyllwild. It’s such a quaint little town! Neat shops, delicious restaurants, and Mayor Max (who is a dog!) How can you go wrong?
I’m so glad for today’s zero. No trail miles hiked. Lots of running around and a bit of relaxing made for a pretty great day.
I ran into Freddy this morning in Nomad Ventures gear shop. She seemed relieved but still burdened by Sasha’s disappearance the other night. We had a good chat and I hope she can find some solace in the trail. The trail provides. Sasha is safe and hikers take care of hikers. It’s a really tight knit community.
Impulse left with the OG tramily this morning. It was sad to see him go but it was great to see the boys off this morning. They’re skipping ahead to Black Mountain rather than attempting the dangerous peaks of San Jacinto.
We’ve decided to take a double zero and possibly leave on Wednesday morning back to trail, weather dependent. Troy, now known as Roamer, is in town and wants to join with our group and take things a little slower going through the mountains. We haven’t devised our plan yet but we’re sort of hoping to not have to skip a pile of miles… it’ll definitely slow us down but getting to Kennedy Meadows South too early will just result in a longer wait before entering the Sierras. So we’re thinking we might attempt the peaks if this recent storm blows over. Or at least the trail to the peaks, and then duck out on Spitler Trail back to Idyllwild if things get really gnarly up there. We all have ice axes and microspikes and are used to snow conditions, so fingers crossed we can make it work.
Air Drop left this morning and went through the peaks instead of skipping. Check this out! I’m proud of him. He’s seriously a rock star. Good luck out there, Air Drop.
