Day 35 - Zero in Big Bear - PCT 2024
Miles Hiked: 0
Total Ascent: 0 ft.
Total Descent: 0 ft.
Took a zero in Big Bear Lake to let the storm pass. Happy to explore a bit. I went to Stella Luna for brunch. They were thrilled I returned and gave me a free glass of wine. Can’t beat that service! I grabbed a coffee and walked over to the trolly. It was fun taking the free trolly around Big Bear. I got to see both ski resorts, which are super close together, and then I went grocery shopping to refill my resupply.
My plan was to go into Cedar Glen but since we dropped back down to town, it makes more sense to press on to Cajon Pass instead. That is an approximate 5 day food carry which is heavy. Towns are going to be further apart and a heck of a lot smaller as I go. I’ve been cushioned with trail towns up until Big Bear. I’m a bit nervous to see how resupply will work going forward. I’m going to need to start pushing higher mileage. Shouldn’t be a problem as the trail drops down to Cajon Pass, hopefully allowing for higher mileage days.
Dr. Jess texted asking if I needed to grocery shop as she was bringing other hikers to the store. Luckily I was already at the store so I got a ride back to the hotel. Saved me a trip on the bus. Later in the day, Kathryn and I both had a physio session from Dr. Jess and that was helpful for my sore knee. Post holing the last two days aggravated it. I am definitely prioritizing my physical health and physio was worth it!
It snowed a bit in the afternoon but the forecast is calling for nice weather so I’m heading back to trail tomorrow.
